Eat Sleep Work

I planned a sort of last-minute trip today in an attempt to get out my rut, but it seemed to fail miserably. There is absolutely nothing worthwhile to do that isn't at least a weekend trip... which we really can't afford.

It's really not even worth explaining, so I will just leave you with two pictures... and you can make up the story for yourself.

Bored?

Holy Carp! Or; Mail out the wazoo.

This month I learned a very valuable lesson about swapping. I signed up for three penpal swaps on Swap-bot, sent out 15 or so "official" Postcrossing cards and took on a few postcard tag swaps on forums (PPK, Postcrossing and Swap-bot.) And holy mackerel, did I lose track of it all.

I've been getting mail nearly every day, which is awesome. What's not awesome is that I wasn't sure where some of them came from. (Valuable Lesson #2: Write your username and the website/thread name on absolutely everything. Even if you think it will be obvious.)

Anyway... postcard roundup. And there are at least five sitting on my scanner that I'm too lazy to do right now.

Jared Padalecki Loves Steak

I realize this is stupid and petty, but it's been bugging me since last night. I had to physically restrain myself from leaving a comment on this Gilmore Girls News post. (Bringing drama to silly, cutesy posts is lame. I hate when other people do it, so there is no reason for me to do it.)

Jared Padelecki loves steak
. Which is great, and totally his choice, I guess.

Except...

"Why is it deemed acceptable to kill some animals for their fur and sit at home cuddling others?... After spending time with my dogs, I can't imagine how anyone could wear these sweet, sensitive animals. If you've ever spent any time with an animal, how could you ever think of wearing fur?"

Not that PETA generally has the most animal-friendly spokespeople to begin with. Soundbites and product endorsement usually suffice.

My First Vegan Cheesecake

This feels like a rite of passage or something. My First Vegan Cheesecake. It's not even part of the Vegan's Hundred, but I believe it should be a badge on the Official Vegan sash. (Relatedly, I believe there should be an Official Vegan sash.)

My First Vegan Cheesecake

I used the cheesecake recipe from My Sweet Vegan. (Two plugs for Hannah in under 30 seconds. Wow.) I was skeptical when I saw how thin the filling was after blending it, but because it's described as being similar to an ice cream cake, I trusted the recipe enough to just stick it in the freezer and see how it looked after a few hours. It set up very nicely, but began to melt almost instantaneously. Luckily, it was very quickly gobbled up.

The crust is made from chocolate Teddy Grahams, which I pulverized in Choppy (my mini food processor) while resisting the urge to ominously hum Teddy Bear's Picnic. There were six cupcake-sized cheesecakes in all... Brad's were left plain, while mine were topped with raspberry jam.

I have a new project in mind that could potentially increase the food porn around here ever so slightly. I spent most of Saturday making the Cake of the Month at work, and thinking about how I might veganize it. (A chocolate cake with mint buttercream frosting and chocolate crunchy cookie bits. Simple.) I think I might veganize every Cake of the Month for as long as I stay with this company. In the event of a cake I just don't care for, I will tweak it a little, but will try to stay in the same vein.
