I don't recall how this came up, but we came up with a few baby names for our imaginary offspring the other night.

Almond-Amaretto Truffles

Another day off, another batch of truffles.
I used the same basic recipe as before, this time using Amaretto and soy milk and the liquid portion. I was afraid of using too much liquor, but I think I could have actually done without the milk all together... or maybe I just like things too strong.
Half are rolled in dark cocoa, and half are rolled in chopped almonds. (Almonds ran through the food processor at 12:30am. Take that, neighbors.)

I should have gotten more done around the apartment today, but I decided to go shopping instead. I resisted buying a new pair of Madden Girl heels at Marshall's because I knew I'd never wear them, a fish tank at PetCo because I knew I didn't want to clean it, bamboo yarn at Michael's for a neapolitan scarf I'd never knit, and a swim suit at Old Navy I have no immediate plans for. I did, however, spend $17 at Toys R Us on a few spring-ish Littlest Pet Shop toys. (The food-theme thing has already been abandoned.)

Emo Egg

Let me tell you a story about a little egg who should never have been born. (Laid?)
Poor little Emo Egg is the result of a failed attempt at making Easter cookies. Try as I might, I just can't conquer vegan sugar cookies. I guess I need to let go of what a sugar cookie "should be" and just worry about what tastes good in its own right. This was my first attempt at icing cookies instead of slathering them with buttercream frosting, and only the solid-colored eggs turned out reasonably attractive.
Crappy photography also played a part in little Emo Egg's being. Not a single shot of the egg cookies turned out alright. Poor lighting and general incompetence were key factors.
So, when faced with the possibility of a food-pornless day off, my severe boredom and utter silliness took over and Emo Egg was born. The world may never be the same.
Emo Egg would like to wish you a happy Easter, Ostara, spring equinox, or just a happy weekend. You decide.
(I just ate Emo Egg.)

Eventually the porn will commence.
Today was my first day off in a week, and I think I've spent more than half this week's paybloop in the past 24 hours.
Apparently, being at work is safer. Cheaper, at least.
pizza - $15
haircut - $41
face wash, lip butter, scented oil - $25
peppermint mocha - $3
HumanGirl.com - $20 (stay tuned)
bus - $2
ATM - $20
Apparently, being at work is safer. Cheaper, at least.

Pipsy

I bought this on the way home last night. I've been seeing so many toy collectors on Flickr that I finally gave into my desires to bring random crap home. I've decided food-themed toys are my new thing. (And a convenient way to limit myself on what sort of random crap I bring home.)
This is the first time I've bought a toy (other than the ones in the bubble machines) in at least ten years... and I have to say that browsing the shelves for the 'right' one, bringing it home and opening up the package just feels nice. Nostalgic.
I had tons of Littlest Pet Shop toys when I was little, and I've been saying for the last few years that I absolutely hate the new generation. Apparently, they've grown on me. I saw a few others I might bring home soon.
I've named this one Pipsy... because, despite when the DS version might lead you to believe, Diddy Kong Racing didn't actually suck that badly.
(This is why I don't tell coworkers about my hobbies.)

Crumb-Topped Brownies / Make Mine Chocolate

I would make some apology here for having posted five chocolate dishes in a row, but... I'm not sure anyone should ever apologize for chocolate. I'd like to try something fruity next time, but I have a feeling there is nothing but chocolate in my future.
These are the crumb-topped brownies from My Sweet Vegan that I promised nearly two weeks ago. (Haven't I learned that there is no tomorrow in the world of blogging?)
They are yummy and chocolaty and delicious. Or, they would be, if I hadn't made the mistake of using the non-stick spray in the cupboard. I think there is a 90% chance that Brad won't notice a thing, but I am super-sensitive to butter, oil and margarine flavors. (I think I am the only vegan in the world who finds Earth Balance extremely unpalatable.)
--
I wish I would remember the Make Mine Chocolate campaign more than a week or so before Easter. I'd like to work out some sort of project to promote it, but it seems to slip my mind until mid-March every year.
So, go check it out. Bunnies aren't gifts, yo.

Truffle Redux.

Truffles have been going around the blogosphere lately, so I thought I'd try my hand at another batch. I used the basic recipe found over at Conscious Kitchen, with Kahlua and soy creamer mixed with instant coffee as my liquid portion.
I've never made or even eaten handmade truffles before, so I honestly don't know how to judge these. They taste wonderful, but seem a little too soft. Next time, I'll have to use a higher ratio of chocolate to liquid.
I am now on my way to work, despite it being my day off. I need to grow a backbone... or the ability to lie. (Brad asked why I didn't just say I already had plans for today. I actually had such low expectations for my day that even the vague idea of "plans" seemed like a tremendous lie.) Oh, well... it's a little extra cash for the week, I suppose.
